Pools, Splash Pads & Water Parks(17)
⏰ Heads up — most outdoor pools close for the season on or around Labor Day (Mon, Sept 7, 2026), with indoor rec-center pools staying open year-round. A couple of specifics worth knowing: Fairfax County's Water Mine confirmed it stays open through Labor Day itself, closing out the season with a "Dog Daze" event for dogs. NOVA Parks waterparks (Pirate's Cove, Volcano Island) have published hours that currently only run through Aug 23 — possibly an earlier close than Labor Day, so double-check before a late-August visit. Hours also shift for holidays and swim meets throughout the season — treat these as a starting point and check the official page before you load up the car.
Franklin Park Pool
The county's flagship outdoor pool — 25m lap lanes, a shallow paddle pool, a terraced upper pool with a water slide, lily pads and log crossings. New for 2026: a farmhouse-themed splash pad within the pool grounds, with spraying sunflowers, frogs, and fish.
July 4: 11am–4pm (holiday hours)
Lovettsville Community Center Pool
A smaller, quieter town pool with a diving board and a kids' splash area — usually less crowded than the bigger county pools.
July 4: 12–6:30pm (holiday hours)
Ashburn, Claude Moore & Dulles South Rec Centers
Three indoor leisure pools with water slides, lazy rivers, vortexes and hot tubs, plus at least three lap lanes open to the public whenever the pool is open.
Pool hours vary by location — check loudoun.gov/PoolHours
Round Hill Indoor Aquatic Center
A four-lane, low-impact pool kept at a steady 82°F, with a zero-depth ramp entrance — good for lessons, fitness swim and families with little ones.
July 4: closes at noon
Splash Pad at Hal & Berni Hanson Regional Park
A newer splash pad with a water-squirting spider, a bucket drop and more — daily hours run a little differently from the rest of the park, so double-check before you go.
Volcano Island Waterpark
Water slides ranging from 170 to 230 feet, open and enclosed, plus a shallow play area with a 500-gallon dump bucket, tube slides and fountains.
The 9 Fairfax County RECenters

Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole
A Western-themed pool built for elementary-age kids — slides, floatables, sprays and a 725-foot lazy river.
Pirate's Cove
Geared toward younger swimmers — a dumping-bucket play structure, slides, waterfalls and a buried-treasure sand play area.

A wave pool, four-story water slides, a shallow play pool and a tad pool for the smallest visitors — plus mini golf and batting cages on the same 26 acres.

The Boardwalk at Hersheypark
An 11-acre water park inside Hersheypark — a wave pool, a water coaster, six slides and a lazy river, included in park admission. A bigger commitment than anything else on this list, but a genuine bucket-list day trip.

When it's this hot, a pool isn't always in reach but a milkshake usually is. A few local favorites, real locations, real hours.
